The Twelfth Annual Hockey Day Minnesota sports a new angle to fun Jan. 19 and 20 at Lake George and Eastman Park in St. Cloud, MN. Hockey Day Minnesota is an event run in cooperation with the Minnesota Wild and Fox Sports North that features high school, college and NHL hockey games – all played on outdoor rinks. Emily Bertram, social media and marketing specialist at the St. Cloud Area Convention and Visitors Bureau says the gathering will be big — attracting about 6,000 to 7,000 people to primarily outdoor events.
Jan. 19 features a 5 p.m. game between the St. Cloud Icebreakers and Girls Storm’n Sabres, as well as a 7:30 p.m. St. Cloud State Alumni Game — a unique attraction.
Jan. 20 at 10 a.m., St. Cloud faces off against the St. Cloud Cathedral Boys. The 1 p.m. game is St. Cloud State versus U of MN Duluth Women. Moorhead and Centennial Boys play at 4:30 p.m.
That night the Fabulous Armadillos give a free performance at 6:30 p.m. at Lake George. Meanwhile, skaters on the lake are welcome!

About 60 sponsors combined efforts to do everything from tow a Zamboni from Wisconsin to St. Cloud, to take tickets at the gate. The St. Cloud Downtown Council even wove the winter festival theme “Holiday on Ice” into its recent winter parade.
“There’s a lot of passion for this event,” Bertram said. “It’s fun to see everyone so positive and working together.”
Fox Sports North will broadcast the Saturday games, giving St. Cloud valuable airtime and visibility. And, a way to share the hard water fun. Don’t miss it!
